Bird Homestead Volunteer Grounds Work Project

Bird Homestead Volunteer Grounds Work Project

The Committee to Save the Bird Homestead is sponsoring a grounds work project for interested volunteers from 10 am to noon, Saturday, Feb. 27. The group will work to remove Ailanthus, a non-native tree that has sprung up on the Bird Homestead grounds in unplanned places. Alison Beall, Curator of Marshlands Conservancy, will supervise the project. The work involves cutting and stacking, as well as some felling. Only hand tools will be used. Participants should dress warmly in outdoor work clothes and wear work gloves, if possible. Tools will be provided, but extra bow saws would be welcome. Interested volunteers should meet at the Bird Homestead, 600 Milton Road, at 10 AM. Participants do not need to attend for the whole two-hour session.
