Joseph Squillante – A Closer Look: The Hudson River

Travel the Hudson River through the photographs of Joseph Squillante. Explore the river through some of his traditional images of 30+ years, and view his new body of work that looks at abstract details. Gain a behind-the-scenes look at worlds not readily accessible: a wildlife biologist capturing a bald eagle, abstract details of the Palisades rock formations, a Stealth Bomber in flight, and more. Squillante will reveal the inspiration and creative process behind his work.

Joseph Squillante has traveled the length of the river, from its source at Lake Tear of the Clouds on Mount Marcy in the Adirondacks to its mouth at New York Harbor. He and his wife, Carol Capobianco, founded the Hudson River School of Photography, cultivating an appreciation for the Hudson through workshops, slide presentations, in-classroom talks, lessons, exhibitions, and note cards and prints. Squillante is a member of the American Society of Media Photographers, ArtsWestchester Teaching Artist Roster, and the Peekskill Arts Alliance. A number of his photographs are in the permanent collections of the New-York Historical Society, Museum of the City of New York, and the Albany Institute of History and Art.

Part of a lecture series on the art, culture, and ecology of the Hudson River, sponsored by the Board of Directors of the Hudson River Valley Environmental Education Institute and the Sarah Lawrence College Center for the Urban River at Beczak, www.centerfortheurbanriver.org.
