The League of Women Voters is hosting a forum for Rye mayoral and Rye City Council candidates at 6:30 p.m. at Rye Middle School in the Multi-Purpose room.

City Council candidates Kirstin Bucci, Meg Cameron, Terry McCartney, Jason Mehler, Shari Punyon and Julie Killian will start the forum at 6:30 p.m. and mayoral candidates Joseph Sack, Nancy Silberkleit,  Peter Jovanovich will hold their discussion at 8:15 p.m.

No matter what the outcome, at least two new faces will be seated at the city council dais and Rye will have a new mayor. Outgoing Mayor Douglas French decided not to run for re-election this year.

At first it seemed current city council member Joe Sack would be an uncontested candidate for mayor, but after the Rye Democratic City Committee did not nominate its own mayoral candidate, Silberkleit and Jovanovich decided to both run as independent candidates.

Jovanovich’s city council term has ended, along with the terms of Julie Killian, who is seeking re-election and Richard Filippi, who is not running for re-election.
