Winter Weather Causes School Closings and Delays

Snowfall early Tuesday morning will turn into rain throughout today.

The Rye City School District has cancelled school and all after school activities Tuesday because of overnight snowfall.

Tuesday night's forum to discuss the high school's search for a new principal has not yet been cancelled, but the school district said it will make that determination later in the day.

All Blind Brooks schools will open two hours later than usual because of the storm, which began around 3 a.m. Tuesday.

The storm is the fourth in the Rye area in the last four weeks. about two weeks about a monstrous , causing school cancellations and travel delays.

More travel delays are expected on Tuesday because of slick and icy road conditions will make the morning commute more dangerous. Westchester Bee-Line buses are already operating with scattered delays and routes 8, 13, 16, 19, and 32 are traveling on the standard snow detours. On the Metro-North, there are currently delays on the New Haven line as well. Trains are currently operating with delays of up to 10 to 15 minutes between New Haven and Stamford due to wire damage in the vicinity of Noroton Heights.

Tuesday's forecast for the Rye area calls for more rain, with possible accumulation between a half and three quarters of an inch. More rain is likely before 9 p.m. and Tuesday's high is 34 degrees. The weather should become more temperate on Wednesday, as the forecast calls for only a 30 percent chance of rain and a high of 44 degrees.
