[UPDATE] Rye Events: Cancellations, Postponements and As Planned

UPDATE (3 PM FRIDAY) - The Emergency Shelter located at Rye Country Day School is closed.

The City of Rye will operate a Warming Center at the Adminsitration Building of Rye Golf Club, 330 Boston Post Road, beginning at 2:00 P.M. today, Friday, November 2, 2012. It will operate from 9:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M. until further notice.

The warming center will have power strips for charging portable devices, as well as coffee and tea.


This article will serve as a place for people to post their cancellations and postponements and to let the community know if an event is still happening as planned. Here is what we have as of 2:30 p.m. Wednesday:

  • Halloween: Police discourage residents from trick or treating today. Rye Mayor Douglas French said he will reschedule a day for kids to collect their candy door to door. 
  • Blind Brook schools are closed Thurs. and Fri. 
  • Resurrection School Father Son Night on Friday, November 2nd has been postponed. 
  • Rye Recreation is closed until further notice.
  • The Rye YMCA is open. They have delayed program registration: Members: Tues: 11/6; Non-Members: Thurs. 11/8. New session starts as scheduled: 11/10

The Rye Nature Center is asking people to stay off Rye Nature Center's trails until all damage can be fully assessed and marked. The Nature Center's museum will reopen this Saturday, 11/3. We will be running our 11/6/12 School's Out Workshop for ages 4-10.

Thanks so much for posting Susan and glad to hear something is going on as usual. Here is another closure announcement: RAC will be closed through 11/5 due to a downed tree and lines at its 51 Milton Rd. address. We currently have no phone, Internet or computer service. On Monday, we will assess the situation and determine on a daily basis when we will be up and fully operational. Please go to our website for the latest updates www.ryeartscenter.org.

The following Blind Brook athletics events are scheduled: For Sunday, November 4th, the girl's varsity soccer team will be playing North Salem at 10:30 am at Blind Brook and the boy's varsity soccer team will be playing Hastings at 1:30 pm at Blind Brook. For Monday, November 5th, the girl's volleyball team will be playing Croton at 4:30 pm at Blind Brook.

The Blind Brook Board of Education meeting scheduled for Monday, November 5th at 8:00 pm has been cancelled.

According to On the Way Cafe's facebook status: Ralph's Wines And Spirits is open, Rye Beach Pharmacy is open, Rye Road House is open, Kelly's Sea Level is open. Help Rye by supporting your local small businesses.

Due to the continuing clean up efforts and power outages throughout our local communities, and now the increasing shortage of gasoline, the Rye Country Day School Book Fair, originally scheduled for this weekend, will be postponed to a later date.

The Rye Arts Center will be open tomorrow, Saturday, 11/3, from 9:00 - 2:00 pm. Stop by and grab a cup of coffee and warmth - we have plenty of space available, as well as electricity for you to charge your phones/laptops. Also, from 12:00 - 2:00 pm there will be arts/crafts/music for the kids. (Please note: regular Saturday classes will not be held tomorrow.) On view in our Gallery is Photographers on Location, featuring images captured by 26 photographers. Stop by and see this exhibition - now extended until Thursday, November 15. The Rye Arts Center is hoping to resume its regular schedule soon - in the meantime, as always, please remember we're here for you. Your friends at The Rye Arts Center
