Rye Brook: 500 Still Without Power

A message from Mayor Joan Feinstien.

This afternoon I was on a daily municipal conference call with Con Edison and unfortunately I wish I had better news to report to our residents without power.  I, along with many other municipal officials on this call, expressed frustration with the lack of accurate information that Con Edison has been providing regarding restoration efforts.

We believe there are approximately 500 residents still without power.  It is very important for any residents without any power to call in their outage every day at 1-800-75-CONED.  If power is restored to your area and you do not have power returned, it is important to call that in as well.

The AJP Community Center located at 32 Garibaldi Place will be open today and tomorrow from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm.  Residents can charge their cell phones and lap tops, watch TV, keep warm and use the computers on site to access the Internet.

Rye Brook highway crews have been working an extended work day picking up leaves and storm debris of a manageable size but please be patient as the volume of material is large.

The village is closely watching a nor’easter that is expected to arrive Wednesday afternoon into Thursday and may bring high winds, rain and some snow.  Please monitor local weather forecasts to plan accordingly and in an emergency dial 911.

Let's look at the appropriateness of this post. First, it's clearly an ad because it points to aRead More specific insurance agent at a specific agency to contact. Second, it attempts to hide being an ad behind what may be useful information (or not). Third, the "person" who posted it doesn't use their real name. Instead, they use a pseudonym Divorce Information NOW. That doesn’t seem terribly reassuring to me. This the third advertising post on the “announcements” space since Rye Patch converted to the new site layout. Seems a bit of a mess to me. But hopefully someone will come along and figure out who the real poster is, their link to the advertised agent and agency, and then delete the post. After all, if it’s an ad, it should be labeled as such and the poster should pay for having it run. If that doesn’t happen, Patch won’t be able to pay its employees to keep real content on the site.
