Patch Picks: 10 Things to Do for Labor Day

Rockland Community College will host the “New York Remembers” exhibit from 8 a.m.-9:30 p.m. through the long weekend, displaying artifacts from the September 11 attacks. While it’s not the most carefree way to celebrate the end of summer, this exhibit is sure to offer an educational and emotional experience for the whole family, and it’s a good way to honor the lives lost as the 10th anniversary approaches.

If you’re looking to celebrate Labor Day by going out to dinner, why not contribute to a good cause while you dine? Bravo! Cucina Italiana is hosting its “Make a Difference Mondays” on Sept. 5 by donating 10% of your bill to the 2011 Greater Hudson Valley Walk for Autism Speaks, held on Oct. 15. 3. Botanical Gardens “All About Apples”

This is a nice spin on apple picking and a great activity for the kids. On Monday from 10 a.m.-6 p.m., search the garden for apples and then decorate them together.

The Westchester Cycle Club will host its 30th annual Golden Apple Bicycle tour on Sept. 4 from 7 a.m.-5 p.m. This is a great opportunity for cyclists of all skill levels to get out and get active before the weather turns cold. This fun and interactive learning experience will help bring science to life for your children while you spend an afternoon by the waterfront. What better way to spend a day than searching for treasures at an antique sale? You may find just the piece you were looking for or be completely surprised by a hidden gem. The fair will take place on Sept. 5 from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on the main lawn, rain or shine.

10. The Green Corn Festival

Where: Philipsburg Manor, 381 North Broadway, Sleepy Hollow, NY 10591

Starting Sept. 3, Phillipsburg Manor will host the annual Green Corn Festival, a three-day celebration of Native American culture with music, storytelling, games and hands-on craft activities for the kids.
