Five things you need to know on hump day.

1. Rye Brook Announces Halloween in the Park

Rye Brook Recreation presents Halloween in the Park on October 20th from 6:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. at Rye HillsPark.  This event will have programs for all ages, although parents may want to use discretion to allow young children on the haunted hayride.  Please park at Crawford Park and walk over to Rye Hill Park.  The first 100 children at the conclusion of the trail receive a goodie bag!  Free entrance to everyone (refreshments will be sold). 

2. Oyster Arts and Music Festival Oct. 6 and 7

From the Oyster Arts and Music Festival: Playland is back! Featuring over 50 Fine Artists and Crafters, great live music, and delicious food, the festival is happening October 6 & 7 from 10-6 right on the Boardwalk at Rye Playland.

Free Admission and Free Parking! New this year, we have an expanded Children's Activity Area with great stuff to do from the Westchester Children's Museum, the Rye Arts Center, the Clay Arts Center and Rock Island Sound! 3. Laber Foundation Raise Thousands for Arts and Music

From the Laber Foundation for the Arts Facebook page:

Thank you to everyone who came out Saturday night to support our kick-off fundraiser. We raised $3,000 and donated $300 to purchase drums for the St. Thomas Children's Choir and $640 to Our Lady of Fatima School which is on the verge of closing!!

4. LIVESTRONG Week

The Rye YMCA is hosting LIVESTRONG week to celebrate cancer survivors and the Y’s free LIVESTRONG program through Oct. 7. Throughout the week the Y will be be celebrating with events including a swim challenge, guided walks and an art exhibit by Alex Davitt (former LIVESTRONG at the YMCA participant).

The week will culminate with several events on Sunday, October 7 including an opportunity to participate in our "Locks of Love" hair donation, spin-a-thon and survivor dinner. Click here for details.

5. Scared by the Sound Opens Friday

From Westchester County: Zombies, ghouls, ghosts and creeps eagerly await you when the “Scared by the Sound” Haunted House returns with two additional all new attractions for the Halloween season, beginning Friday, Oct. 5 at Playland Park in Rye.

Let's look at the appropriateness of this post. First, it's clearly an ad because it points to aRead More specific insurance agent at a specific agency to contact. Second, it attempts to hide being an ad behind what may be useful information (or not). Third, the "person" who posted it doesn't use their real name. Instead, they use a pseudonym Divorce Information NOW. That doesn’t seem terribly reassuring to me. This the third advertising post on the “announcements” space since Rye Patch converted to the new site layout. Seems a bit of a mess to me. But hopefully someone will come along and figure out who the real poster is, their link to the advertised agent and agency, and then delete the post. After all, if it’s an ad, it should be labeled as such and the poster should pay for having it run. If that doesn’t happen, Patch won’t be able to pay its employees to keep real content on the site.

The animator from the Simpsons TV show Mark Ervin will be skyped in during the car show and will beRead More doing a sketch or drawing live, and will be aucitoned off to benefit the Jarrid Amico Memorial Scholarship Award..
