Happy Vernal Equinox!

It's also known as the first day of spring.

Wednesday is the official first day of spring. It's also that astrophysical thing known as the spring or vernal equinox.

Twice a year, at the spring and fall equinoxes, the sun is directly over the equator (remember, we tilt).

Today that happened at 7:02 a.m. (EDT).

With sunrise at 6:59 a.m. and sunset at 7:08 p.m., night and day will be almost exactly the same length today.

The sunlight is stronger but the temperatures will be chilly for the rest of the week, so the snow melt may be slow. The forecast for Saturday and Sunday from the National Weather Service is sunny and in the 40s.
