Blind Brook and Rye School Budgets; Real Estate Gets Social

Five things you need to know today, Tuesday, April 24.

1. Rye Board of Education Meeting

The Rye BOE will meet at 8 p.m. tonight. Read the agenda here

During last week’s BOE meeting, the board approved a $76.6 million budget that the public will vote for or against on May 21. The budget is within the two percent state-mandated tax cap, but proposes to cut around 26 jobs in the district. School officials say they are still waiting to see how many people will retire or not return to work next year in order to determine how many jobs will be cut. Read more on the budget here.

2. Blind Brook Board of Education Meeting

The BB BOE will meet at 8 p.m. in the HS/MS auditorium. The board is expected to adopt 2013-2014 Budget and Property Tax Report Card. Read the agenda in the PDF attached to this article.

Th 2013-2014 budget is a 0.94% increase over the 2011-2012 budget and is within the state-mandated two percent tax cap. It will result in a corresponding tax levy increase of 1.32% if passed by resident voters, an increase that is below the 1.77% tax levy cap calculated for this District. Rye Brook residents will have the opportunity to vote on this budget on May 15 at the Bruno M. Ponterio Ridge Street elementary school from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.

3. Real Estate Gets Social

An evening of conversation and cocktails revolving around how “Real Estate Gets Social” will be held at Serendipity Labs at 7 p.m. tonight. Kim Arenas, Houlihan Lawrence and Chris Dessi, CEO of Silverback Social, Author and Fox News contributor will share how social media has transformed our culture and its impact on real estate. 4. Rye Y Hosts Stress Management Workshop
