Titanic, the Musical Play at the Westchester Broadway Theatre, Receives Acclaim From Critics

Local media critics are unanimous; Titanic, now playing at the Westchester Broadway Theatre, is must-see theater.

This reworked and extensively restaged revival was directed by original cast member Don Stephenson who played Charles Clarke in the 1997 New York City Broadway play.

The Journal News review is lavish in praise for this production of Titanicand is headlined with: "The Ship Still Sinks, But a Re-imaged 'Titanic' Soars." Reviewer John P. McCarthy declares the play "engrossing" and comments, "the singing is marvelous." He adds: "This poignant yet powerful revamp celebrates every light in the human filament."

Sebra Banerjee at the Scarsdale Inquirer opens her review by saying, "I loved everything about it, and you won't find a better cast anywhere." She advises: "Go right now to Westchester Broadway Theatre to see the new, intimate adaption of Maury Yeston and Peter Stone's musical about the doomed ship of dreams."

Another banner headline accompanies a review written by White Plains "CitizeNetReporter" editor John F. Bailey: "Titanic Completes Maiden Voyage to New York." This is followed with "Powerful Cast's Voices Raise Titanic, Inspire Audience with Admiration, Hope, Perseverance."
For the Daily Voice, William Reynolds wrote, "The ensemble cast is magnificent."
A Patch article about Titanic carries the headline: "Don't Miss Seeing Titanic, On Stage at the Westchester Broadway Theatre."

The Patch article notes that the Tony for Best Book was awarded "for having dialog and lyrics that work so beautifully together."

The Westchester Guardian review by John Simon concludes: "Do try to catch this show that, rather rare among musicals, leaves you with something to think about on top of having been generously entertained."

Simon, in a career spanning more than 50 years, has covered theater, film and music for the Hudson Review, New Leader, New Criterion, National Review, New York Magazine, Broadway.com, Bloomberg News and more. He holds a PhD from Harvard University in Comparative Literature and taught at MIT, Harvard University, Bard College and Marymount Manhattan College.
