The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and Why You Should go!

The beloved Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade is now entering its 87th year and kicks off the holiday seasons for Gothamites in style.  The fun begins at 9am on the corner of 77th St and Central Park West, down 6th ave and ends at Macy's Herald.  Although I've lived in NY my entire life last year was the first time I attended the festivities.  It really is much more fun than watching it on TV, if you can handle large crowds.

Here are a few tips to ensure you have a great experience.  First, make sure you eat something to absorb your coffee or tea, otherwise it will run right through you and when lost in the sea of people you won't have many options to use a restroom.  Second, dress warm!  I can't stress this enough!  Third, try to position yourself on a side street (somewhere between 60-79th St) and get there early so that you are near the front.  If you don't get there early, don’t worry.  You will be gently pushed like a wave in the ocean and before you know it you are much closer than when you started.  Lastly, be grateful and gracious, it's up to us to spread the holiday cheer.

Weds November 27th from 3-9pm you can walk along and watch as the balloons are blown up and positioned for take-off Thanksgiving morning.  The path for the inflation winds around the Museum of Natural History beginning at 79th St. and travels along Columbus Ave, 77th St, Central Park South, and 81st St.

Macy's has created a website strictly for parade details, www.macys.com/parade
