Scared by the Sound, the attraction responsible for making nightmares come to life suffered real life nightmares of its own the last two years when the freak 2011 Halloween snow storm and then 2012’s Hurricane Sandy destroyed its last two seasons at Playland Park.
But the loss of most equipment and the biggest profit-making weekends of the year did not stop Director Pat Costello, a New Rochelle resident. He has moved the attraction to Cortlandt now that his old area at Playland is being used as a construction zone. Plus, he did not want to be outdoors again anyway.
“We took a tremendous hit,” Costello said. “It was a huge destruction we had to deal with.”
All electronics and many other parts of the attraction had to be replaced and insurance did not cover the damage, Costello said.
In addition to the material losses, Costello also lost his actress manager who has been with him since the start of the attraction 13 years ago, Dorina Dilullo. The 42-year-old Hastings resident who is well known for her career in acting died unexpectedly this April due to a heart failure, Costello said.
"We needed three people to rise up from our ranks to take her job," Costello said.
“The big deal is that we are back after two huge disappointments at Playland, we are all enclosed now and the show goes on in memory of our main actor manager."
