Rye Residents Resolve to Stay in Shape

New Year's fitness promises are common. For clients at BodyFocus and Rye Health and Fitness, a healthy lifestyle is a year long committment.

New Year’s promises to start a healthy lifestyle are a familiar refrain. Fitness center memberships skyrocket every First of January. Attendance tends to drop as weeks go by and old habits once again take hold. But there are some who fully commit to staying healthy day in and out.

“It’s my year-long resolution. I try to come three times a week and in between, I run about five times a week,” said Rye resident Kim Kaufman during a break between rigorous workouts at .

She continued, “I don’t think you need a New Year to have a resolution. I think it’s always good to examine where you are in life and to figure out where you can have improvement. It’s sort of mind, body, spirit.”

“I think if you work out with a trainer, you’ll have a lot higher success rate. That’s how I got started,” said father Steven.

“It has to be a mindset. I believe I can eat whatever I want as long as I work out. A lot of people sign up for gyms and by February they’re not using them,” he continued.

Business partners Dennis Briscoe and Tommy Martinetti have owned located at 14 Elm Place in Rye, for three years. They notice a spike in business when the new year arrives.

“In January, our numbers go up significantly as far as volume of clients in the gym," said Dennis. "For new clients, our best month is January.”

Trainers at Rye Health and Fitness remain patient with members who have busy agendas.

“Every year people let their lives get away from them with the holidays. I think it’s a good thing that people want to stay healthy, especially in Rye. We see that often,” notes Dennis.

For the clients at Rye Health and Fitness, the emphasis is not “losing weight” but creating self-confidence and instilling a love of being healthy.

Jake Rattner makes his workout part of his daily routine, even when he is away at school. He quipped, “The harder you work, the better you feel.”
