If you’ve noticed a surge of positive energy on Purchase Street over the last week, it may be the new eco-friendly Alex and Ani jewelry store that opened last Wednesday, Nov. 21.
The franchise store managed by Jessica Schwarz of New Jersey, offers “positive energy products that adorn the body, enlighten the mind and empower the spirit,” according to the company’s website.
“It is a very cool concept and we are excited to be here in Rye,” Schwarz said. “Plus we have the best location on the street, right across from Starbucks,” she said.
The jewelry features dozens of charms, each with a unique and positive meaning created to inspire people to express their individuality in an organic and spiritual way. The symbols are designed based on ancient and modern traditions that refer to positive energy, or what scientists call “vital force,” as chi, prana, etheric energy, life force, zero point energy, homeopathic resonance, etc. according to the company. Most items cost in the range of $24 to $55.

The pieces are made of recycled medal and produced entirely in the United States.
Other downtown merchants have offered their own positive energy and welcomed the new shop with open arms, according to Schwarz.
“There has been an outpouring of community support from other store managers and the Rye Chamber of Commerce,” Schwarz said.
Alex and Ani jewelry was designed by Carolyn Rafaelian and is named after her daughters. The company was founded in Newport, Rhode Island in 2005 and is now headquartered in Cranston, R.I. The company succeeded quickly and is currently planning to expand to Europe and around the country. Rye’s store is the first to open in Westchester and one of only two located in New York, the other is located in SoHo. Two more New York stores in Rochester and Victor are planned to open in the next couple of weeks, Schwarz said.

Rye's Alex and Ani, located at 52 Purchase Street, is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays.
