[VIDEO] Playland Open for Mayfair Saturday

Sound Shore Medical Center is sponsoring a free afternoon at Playland for Westchester County residents this Saturday.

This Saturday, for just a sneak peek of an afternoon, amusement park will be open from noon until 6 p.m. for the 42nd annual Mayfair event. Park admission is free for county residents with charges for rides and concessions.

Sound Shore Medical Center is this year's exclusive event sponsor and has participated in the fun day for the last 8 years.

“As a not-for-profit hospital, SSMC is committed to community outreach,” said CEO John R. Spicer. “The Mayfair event is a perfect opportunity to take lifesaving information and screenings to the public - where they live and play.”

With that in mind, in addition to all the fun, Sound Shore Medical Center will be bringing their medical expertise to beach park visitors with health information and screenings throughout the day.

SSMC will provide information on stroke prevention, heart attack warning signs, nutrition, safety and other issues. There will also be blood pressure screenings and diabetes risk assessments.

Westchester County residents can enter the park free of charge for Saturday’s Mayfair event with valid identification even if they aren’t planning to ride the Dragon Coaster or other rides at the park.

In addition to the amusement rides and concessions, there will be a host of vendors selling jewelry, artwork and crafts.  There will be prize raffles and gift giveaways through the afternoon.

opens officially on Saturday, May 12 with a special $15 admission from noon until 7 p.m. and an opening parade at 11 a.m.

Playland will open the two weekends following Mayfair from noon until 7 p.m. On Wednesday, May 23 the park will officially open for the season and operate daily, except Mondays, through September 3. The season will close on Sunday, September 9.

Mayfair rain date is Sunday, May 6 from noon to 6 p.m.

Let's look at the appropriateness of this post. First, it's clearly an ad because it points to aRead More specific insurance agent at a specific agency to contact. Second, it attempts to hide being an ad behind what may be useful information (or not). Third, the "person" who posted it doesn't use their real name. Instead, they use a pseudonym Divorce Information NOW. That doesn’t seem terribly reassuring to me. This the third advertising post on the “announcements” space since Rye Patch converted to the new site layout. Seems a bit of a mess to me. But hopefully someone will come along and figure out who the real poster is, their link to the advertised agent and agency, and then delete the post. After all, if it’s an ad, it should be labeled as such and the poster should pay for having it run. If that doesn’t happen, Patch won’t be able to pay its employees to keep real content on the site.
