Hot Holiday Gift Hits in Rye

Last-minute shopping is in full swing. Many local businesses offer one-of-a-kind pieces for gift-giving.

Rain and wind… everything that makes you not think of the Holiday season in New York. But the holidays are upon us and it’s time to get your last-minute items.

Many stores are open late through Christmas and Patch spoke with a few to find out what items are going fast.

For little kids and kids at heart, giant LED gummy lamps that plug into a computer are selling out at on Purchase St.

“We’ve ordered them three times,” said co-owner Valerie Stone. “It can be a nightlight or other lamp. They are so cute. It’s a conversation piece that isn’t available for sale everywhere yet.”

Owner of , a specialty clothing and accessory store, has been noticing people buying a lot of necklaces because “people think they can remake an outfit with accessories.” Scarves have also been hot sellers.

“I think people have put off holiday shopping because they don’t think it is pressing,” she said.

The holidays are pressing for one group though: party hosts and hostesses. The has gone through a boat-load of holiday cookies.

“We can’t keep up,” said co-owner Claire Hassi. “We have never sold so many cookies in my entire life.”

The classic sugar cookies come in cute shapes like the star of David, reindeer, Christmas trees and stars, and are topped with multicolored icing.

“They are comfort food that people don’t have time to bake anymore,” she said.

Men looking for gifts for their significant others have been gravitating toward drop earrings and monogrammed necklaces at , said manager Michael Givelekian.

Husbands have also been buying a lot of unique art at , said manager Ali Drew.

Specialty clothing store considered their vintage-inspired, turquoise blouse the hit of the season.

Adorned with long silver beads, the sheer top “goes great with a pencil skirt or full-length maxi skirt,” said manager Kelly Selvaggio.

Store manager Kathy Dempsey of has seen an increase of interest in monogrammed bags by children’s accessory company Mint.

“They are so useful to the mother as well as for the child who gets it,” she said.

With many stores open after-hours these next couple of days, a gift for that special loved one can be purchased locally in Rye.
