Proposed Field House At Playland

The Rye residents thought this meeting was going to be a question and answer session.

An “informational meeting” was held at the Rye Free Reading Room last night about the proposed Field House at Playland.  This meeting drew a lot of attention from the Rye residents whose homes will be affected by the new Field House, which is being proposed by Sustainable Playland.

This Field House will have several amenities such as: two turf fields, food service, rest rooms, and party rooms. Sports that will be played here include, lacrosse, soccer, field hockey, basketball, and volleyball.

There was standing room only at the meeting because residents wanted to get answers to their questions, but were frustrated because they were reminded that this was “an informational” meeting only not a question and answer session.

Although people were given cards to write their questions on and some of the questions were answered others weren’t and the crowd was not happy about that. Questions that were raised were in regards to traffic, garbage, parking, noise and safety.

Michael Visci, a 49-year resident of Rye, was concerned because there were many contradictions in the plans and what was being told to the public. “ I am not against the construction, I am concerned about the roads and congestion during the summer months. I have many concerns, but the traffic, parking, noise and safety are important to me because this is happening in my neighborhood. In the past, Playland has been open until 10pm, but this new proposed Field House is going to be open until 11pm seven days a week 365 days a year which will make a difference in noise, traffic and safety.”

Minutes 1:23:51, 1:31:46 and 1:31:38 are interesting. Of course the "I'm not gonna let you speak!" from Morque at 1:30:25 is worth watching too. Many highlights. Some questions were in fact answered, some information did get clarified, but mostly SPI just managed to be obtuse and arrogant yet again, and their Hubris only served to p.o. people even more. Amazing. The audio on this clip does not adequately convey the level of chatter and snickering that was going on in the room as they progressively didn't answer peoples' questions to anyone's satisfaction.

People were told to expect answers at this twice postponed long delayed info session. But they mostly read from what is already on the web. I could have skipped this if I knew that was what they meant by info in advance. People were upset.

It was exactly what I expected from them. Sadly.

How in the world are you going to play lacrosse and soccer with a 32' ceiling height?

See this link on Patch for an example of SPI's non-answer to a question when they had already answered it for the BOL back in October: http://rye.patch.com/groups/opinion/p/spi-says-we-cant-answer-that-when-in-fact-they-can-and-already-have

The Rye Record described the audience as an unruly mob! Was this true?
Deirdre Curran December 21, 2013 at 07:02 PM
No. It's also not true that I said Catherine Parker and Nick Everett have a conflict of interest. Bill Lawyer apparently pulled that line out of his you-know-what. Watch the video link and please tell me at what minute marker I got up and said that, because I was there, and I was there in my own body, and I don't recall that happening. I don't recall it happening because...it DIDN'T. I never got up and said anything AT ALL that night (for a change). I didn't have to, because there were enough other people in the room who were unhappy and wanting to speak/ask questions (and they were not an unruly mob for crying out loud), I finally got to take a well needed rest and just sit and listen. Nice "reporting" Rye Record. Always inaccurate, always biased. Smelly, if you go to www.nofieldzone.org the link to the video is right on the first page there. Click on it and watch. And please note for me where on that video I get up and say anything, because I'm concerned that my body is living another life in a parallel universe.

Meg Cameron wrote a very good Letter to the Editor (*snort*, "Editor", ahem) which is a much more accurate depiction of the evening than Bill Laywer's made-up version.

Deirdre, your body is not living another life in a parallel universe; you’re just in today’s Rye – filled with bald faced liars still salted throughout government. The Rye Record has devolved into the current embattled political class hymnal, printing half truths and spiking legitimate stories that might embarrass special interests and influence peddlers. Thank goodness for local media competition. Deirdre you might be right on track to getting “The Full Schubert.” Don’t think so? You’ve already been mocked publicly at council meetings, lied about by sitting council members behind your back, had a whispering campaign about you begin directly from the council bench itself, had your actions twisted beyond recognition by The Rye Record, been disparaged by friends of investment principals of SPI. If you’re on track here is what you might have to look forward to: (1) the city council will pretend to emphasize with your issues on TV but laugh at you privately (I suspect they already have repeatedly), (2) you will contact a local high ranking politician one day and have the “Crisis Team” sent to your home the next by the city manager to evaluate your sanity and potentially be institutionalized if you say the wrong thing, (3) you will have your complaints mischaracterized and be accused of threatening terrorism, or terrorist acts, by the city manager and you will be arrested by the police and brought before a judge and there threatened with incarceration (notice a pattern of attempted false imprisonment yet?), (4) you will be forced to hire a lawyer and spend your own money to protect yourself from the false charges and trumped up claims brought by city legal fee hogs feeding dishonestly at the public trough at the direction of special interests working through certain suborned sitting council members, (5) you may develop debilitating health problems from the distress of fighting the falsehoods daily and that illness will delight and energize your public treasury funded opponents to finish you off, (6) you might then succumb…Anyway – lets not get ahead of ourselves. After Leon blew the Golf Club stealing wide open despite everything they did to stop him, the sponsors of selfish subterfuge and crime in Rye took a step back. This time it wasn't just one old man, or just one honest young city employee who needed to be defamed and destroyed - it was a large engaged population of Rye taxpayers who were solemnly told to ignore their own eyes and ears. Likewise you now have a large engaged population looking for the truth about Playland and not currently getting a full and candid answer. Maybe that’s going to come, but time is short as Central Amusements told the legislators last week as they sat in front of them ALONE – with no SPI representatives in the room - and no key SPI traffic, parking or other studies available for the legislators to review. That wasn’t leadership by SPI and it wasn’t effective management by SPI either. And that performance is why real questions about SPI being necessary to renewing Playland were raised. And they were raised – verbally – unlike Mr. Lawyer’s front page insinuation about you who remained silent at a meeting as others spoke. Mr. Lawyer might perhaps find a more interesting conflict of interest story within the walls of his own newspaper office suite. And I wouldn't bet on that one coming out until the paper is resold into responsible balanced hands.

Do they actually really *believe* the nonsense that they write under the banner of supposed "journalism"?

Schubert was certifiably nuts. Deirdre is not.
Deirdre Curran December 24, 2013 at 07:14 AM
Uhhhhh...thanks Smelly...I *think*. (I'd feel better about the vote of confidence in my sanity if it didn't include a jab at Mr. Schubert...).

Honestly, I've never seen a year in my life where so many people (most of them people I don't even know at that!) have tried to bully me so egregiously in an effort to shut me up. I greatly prefer to lead a low-key, anonymous life, staying out of things and letting everyone else argue and sort it all out while I sit in the grass and watch bunnies and look for rainbows. I couldn't do that this time. It's a pretty sad statement on SPI that the only way they can fight back at me is not with facts or accurate info (*any* info, really) but by lashing out in the ridiculous ways that they have with their supporters (lackeys) trying to personally discredit me rather than highlighting the specifics and merits of the plan. I've been saying it for a while now, SPI doesn't want public discussion of their plan and they don't want anyone asking any questions, because they know if they allow that, it's going to fall flat on its face. I'm just glad to have raised public awareness and kick-started a very badly needed open public discussion about this whole thing. It was kept quiet and sailing under the radar with no scrutiny for far too long. SO, Merry Christmas to all, I'm taking a break from this for the rest of the week and focusing on the positive!
