View Finder: 4th of July Fireworks

Rye Playland continues its tradition of fireworks on Long Island Sound.

Rye Playland celebrated America's 235th birthday with the annual tradition of fireworks. Hundreds of families from Rye and beyond gathered by the water to watch the fireworks.

The 4th of July fireworks began at 9:30p with people watching all the way from the boardwalk, to the beach, to Rye Town Park and sidewalks across town. The show showcased the signature red, white & blue fireworks with different kinds of fireworks.

Yet, a true first for Rye Playland and what some may call "a technical difficulty" the fireworks ended abruptly, with no finale. People whispered across the beach and park, and some even screamed. But, no fireworks came back into the sky.

Then around 10:30pm as the park began to thin out and families gave up on the fireworks show, lights and thunderous sounds appeared in the sky. The fireworks were back with a five minute show and then finale. Many people that stayed around were happy to watch the finale, yet others were disappointed with the abrupt show ending.

There is no word yet as to why the fireworks show ended with the stop and then gap. Yet, regardless of the ending there is no doubt that the fireworks were stunning. Check out this week's View Finder to see the gorgeous fireworks and to honor America's birthday!
