With horns, backup singers, keys, drums and even string instruments behind him, Charlie Scopoletti lived out a lifelong dream at The Capitol Theatre last night.
Scopoletti, a Port Chester native, gave a crowd of a few hundred friends, family and fans a passionate performance on the stage on which he had hoped to play since he was a child.
The Scopoletti “Truth Concert and Charity Event," raised money for programs close to Scopoletti’s heart – the Imerman Angels, which connects cancer survivors with patients, and the Natalia Crespo Eirin Foundation, formed and named in memory of Scopoletti’s childhood friend who died of brain cancer at a young age. The Foundation works to shape grant-making programs to projects related to brain cancer awareness and research, and to support families and individuals struggling with brain cancer.
Scopoletti himself has struggled with adversity. He is a two-time cancer survivor and was first diagnosed when just ten years old. Read his full story here.
During his performance, Scopoletti stopped to honor Natalia Crespo, describing her as a person who was always there to help others.
"That is what life is about, making other people feel good," Scopoletti said, explaining that was what Natalia did for the friends and family in her life. He then played "Perfect Day," a song he wrote for her just before she died and had only had the chance to play for her one time.
Scopoletti also thanked all his supporters and played the song "Heaven Could Wait," which he dedicated to his family. He explained that when he was sick, he saw his family suffer through the pressure, burden and pain and wrote the song for them.
"My love and spirit is always there for them no matter what happens," he said.
