Rye Weekend: Goings On About Town

From Parsons Street Players production of "Grease" to yoga presentations, and from worthwhile benefits to outdoor events, Rye is a veritable moveable feast of activities this weekend.

From a high school production of “Grease” to various benefits for worthwhile causes, and from yoga classes to historic tree walks, Rye has something going on to suit almost every taste this weekend.

1. Another opening, another show: Just weeks after staging “Urinetown the Musical” to delighted audiences, Rye High School’s Parsons Street Players will stage “Grease” Friday and Saturday at the Performing Arts Center.

The rock’n’roll themed-show filled with teen angst is, of course, based on the 1972 Broadway hit that became the longest-running musical in Broadway history by 1979. The movie version starred John Travolta, Olivia Newton-John and Stockard Channing.

Jimmy Locust, who received rave reviews for choreographing “Urinetown,” will stage the dance numbers.

Performances are Friday at 8 p.m. and Saturday at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. Tickets are available at the door, and cost $10 for adults, $ 5 for students, free for senior citizens.
