Rye Brook Seniors Offered Free Summer Fitness Programs Through Project Enhance

Rye Brook seniors will have the opportunity to get fit this summer with a new program called Enhance Fitness. The program is a community-based approach to health fitness for older adults.

According to their website, Enhance Fitness "helps older adults at all levels of fitness become more active, energized, and empowered to sustain independent lives." Benefits include reduced arthritis pain, increased flexibility, improved strength in bones and increased tone in your muscles.

The hour-long classes are taught by a certified professional and include:

  • A 5-minute warm-up to get the blood flowing to the muscles
  • A 20-minute aerobics workout that gets participants moving, or a walking workout to lively music that the class chooses
  • A 5-minute cool-down
  • A 20-minute strength training workout with soft ankle and wrist weights (0 up to 20 pounds)
  • A 10-minute stretching workout to keep the muscles flexible
  • Balance exercises throughout the class
Classes are held on the following days and times:
  • Mondays at 11:00 a.m. - Enhance Fitness
  • Tuesdays & Thursdays at 9:30 a.m. - General Fitness & Strength Training
  • Wednesdays & Fridays at 11:15 a.m. - Enhance Fitness

Classes run now through August 15 and will be held at the Posillipo Community Center,  32 Garibaldi Place, Rye Brook, NY. Call the Rye Brook Senior Center at (914) 939-7904 to register or for more information.
