Open Door Honored by American Lung Association

Open Door Family Medical Centers honored for promoting tobacco free air.

In celebration of the 10th Anniversary of the New York State Clean Indoor Air Act (CIAA), POW’R Against Tobacco and POW’R Tobacco Cessation Center honored advocates, including Open Door Family Medical Centers for their work promoting tobacco free air. 

Open Door was unique in initiating a tobacco screening and intervention protocol for their patients. They have also worked with residents and political leaders on environmental policy to ensure clean air.

For 40 years, Open Door, a federally qualified community health center has served a multi-cultural community and has provided medical, dental care and social services to the Westchester community, particularly the economically disadvantaged.

Open Door has four centers in Westchester located in Ossining, Port Chester, Mt. Kisco and Sleepy Hollow. In addition, Open Door operates five school-based health centers in Port Chester at The Edison Elementary School, Park Avenue School, the John F. Kennedy Elementary School, Port Chester Middle School and Port Chester High School. 

Funding for Open Door Family Medical Centers comes from local, state and federal grants as well as private foundations and individuals.

POW’R Against Tobacco and POW’R Cessation Center are programs of the the American Lung Association of the Northeast. Since 1992, POW’R has promoted tobacco-free policies and educated the public about tobacco-free communities and the harmful effects of tobacco use.
