About Town : Summer Solstice Edition

Here's a few area events that will help you welcome the beginning of summer.

It's the first day of summer! The summer solstice marks the longest day and shortest night of the year in the Northern hemisphere, so get outside and enjoy it. Here's some events to help you usher in the season.

Rye Recreation's first Kayak of the season is this Thursday, June 23rd.

Don't let the kids have all the fun, join us for a paddle on the sound. We depart from the DePauw Marina (Rye City Boat Basin, Milton Road) at 6:00 p.m. for this adventure. Fun for adults and teens ages 13 and up. Cost is $60 for residents; $45 if you have your own kayak. Non-residents welcome for $75.

Mountain Valley Guides will be on hand to help the novice or experience Kayaker have a great time. Mountain Valley Guides is the premiere kayak outfitter in the Hudson Valley providing fun and safe adventures for kids, adults and dogs for seven years.

Registration deadline is Wednesday, June 22 at noon. For information contact Rye Recreation at 967-2535 or stop by to register at 281 Midland Avenue, Rye.

Toddler Story Time

If there's one thing toddlers know how to do, it's have a good time. Bring your little one over to The Voracious Reader in Larchmont on Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. and Wednesday at 2 p.m. for some giggles and good stories.  , 1997 Palmer Ave, Larchmont, NY 10538.

Family Seining by the Hudson River

As lovely as the Sound is, it's not the only majestic waterway you should explore. Get into the Hudson River, no really. . . get into it, this Saturday, June 25, 11 a.m.

from the Beczak Environmental Education Center: 

A chance to wade in the Hudson River to catch and release river critters.

This event is part of the Beczak Environmental Education Center River Explorers program for children ages 5-12.
