From Summerfest to Sidewalk Sale to "Seussical, Jr." there's lots going on in and around Rye this weekend

From 'Love-A-Pollinator' to discount vouchers good for weekday Rye Town Park beach and parking access (and from the alliteration in Sidewalk Sale to Summerfest to 'Seussical,')a lot is going on locally from A (as in Applebee's fund-raiser) to Z (as in Zumba at the Rye YMCA).

Friday

RTP DISCOUNTS: For the first time, Rye Town Park begins distributing $2 weekday discount coupons for parking and beach admissions today through Sunday.

They will continue distributing the discount vouchers weekends throughout the summer. RTP has printed 20,000 of these discount vouchers in a bid to bolster sagging attendance Mondays through Thursdays.

SIDEWALK SALE: Rye Chamber of Commerce-sponsored Sidewalk Sale runs today and tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Merchants, from Arcade Booksellers and Andy’s Pure Food to Rhythm in Rye Too consignment shop and Weezie D fashions, are participating.

The chamber says discounts up to 70% are available. So the early birds get the best buys. And to think it's all happening on Purchase Street!

SUMMERFEST IN PARK: Port Chester-Rye Brook-Rye Chamber of Commerce stages Summerfest tonight from 6 to 10 p.m. in Rye Town Park Pavilion with food, music, beer, wine, more on tap. Information: 939-1090.

DANCE ON THE BOARDWALK: Milt Gerber Orchestra brings that swing and sway Big Band era sound to Rye Playland for free dancing on the boardwalk from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.  tonight. Pause during band break to watch fireworks show at 9:15 p.m.

‘SEUSSICAL’: Dr. Seuss’ stories inspired “Seussical, Jr.” musical staged tonight and tomorrow night at 8 p.m. at Dunn Performing Arts Center, Rye Country Day School.

Plot revolves around the beloved Dr. Seuss character Horton, a sweet, kind-hearted elephant, and includes such characters as the Cat in the Hat, Sour and Baby Kangaroo. And to think it’s all happening on Cedar St.

RYE BROOK BOWS:  Talented local kid performers Emily Kitchin and Alex Weiss of Rye Brook appearing in Random Farms Kids Theater production of “Cinderella” tonight at 7 p.m. through Sunday at Tarrytown Music Hall, 13 Main St., Tarrytown.

Also Saturday matinee at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. Information: 877-840-0457.

UPS AND DOWNS: Rye’s Wainwight House offers choice of early to mid-morning workouts from Pilates Plus (8 to 8:45 a.m.) to Vinyasa Yoga (9 to 10 a,m,) to Ashtanga Yoga (from 10:15 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.) in the Carriage House aerobics studio.

BIRDS AND BEES: Nearby Greenwich Audubon Society, 613 Ridgeville Rd., conducting a “Love-A-Pollinator Day” from 3:30 to 5:30 P.m.

And just how do you love a pollinator? We’d love to count the ways, but a gentleman’s lips are sealed.  However vegetable entomologist Kim Stoner will lead a walk and talk progam about native bees and other  pollinators. Kim i s coordinating a statewide study of native bees that is creating quite a buzz.

FROM ZUMBA TO DOWNWARD DOG: Rye YMCA exercise programs run early and late, from Group Active (8:30 to 9:30 a.m.) to  Zumba aerobic dance exercises to Latin music (9:30 to 10:20 .a.m.) and from Vinyasa Yoga (from 10:45 a.m. to noon) to Power Moves (4:30 to 5:30 p.m.). Information: 967-6363.
