Additional classroom space, upgrades and new 2-story structure in Rye, anyone? Lots going on... from kayaking to furniture sale to Board of Ed meetings, and from art of auditioning to free music, Shakespeare, more.

From Board of Ed meetings (additional Rye classrooms, anyone?) to architecture camp, and from ABCs on the art of auditions to a free Powerpoint presentation workshop, there's lots going on this week, including sunset kayaking, thrift shop furniture sale, and free rock, jazz and Big Band music, even Shakespeare in the Park, Lyon Park, that is.

Monday

offers a kayaking experience that combines relaxation with light exercise tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. for ages 13 and up with a sunset paddle starting from Rye Boat Basin. No experience necessary. Information: 967-2535

Rye’s offers Architecture Camp for ages 7 through 11, today through Friday. The program is designed to teach the fundamentals of architecture with an emphasis on creating a miniature city. Hands-on activities focus on incorporating art, history and science. Budding Frank Lloyd Wrights will costruct two or more structures, including a dream house and a public building for the community.

Local soprano Daniele Hager –who helped work her way through college as singing bartender/waitress at Rye’s Town Dock –will stage a workshop on “The Audition: The Art of Auditioning” today through Friday from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the .

Daniele just landed lead roles with an opera company in Colombia so she knows about what she talks and sings. Program will focus on analytical characterization of a song, posture, presentation and lots of other factors that play role in Musical Theatre Workshops, auditions. Information: 967-0700.

Tuesday

will meet at 8 p.m. in Rye Middle School Multipurpose Room to focus on, among other things, a report from KSQ architecture firm on further development of middle school and high school space options and estimated costs, including building additional classroom space and design of two-story structure.

Veteran software trainer Diane McKeever will stage free demonstrations at on Powerpoint Presentations from 10 a.m. to noon. She describes herself as a “certified patient person” who has taught more than 100,000 students in the U.S. and Europe over the past 20 years.

Her class will focus on creating digital slide presentations with text, design templates, video and graphics. And if that sounds daunting, she prides herself on presenting material in a manner that is easy and fun to understand. Her expertise comes from fact that she currently teaches about 14 different software programs. focusing primarily on the Microsoft Office suite.

Rye classic rock band “The Derivatives” will stage a free concert during Twilight Tuesdays concert for listening and dancing from 7:30 to 9 p.m. at s South Pavillion. Derivatives will fill RTP with sound of rock, blues and Rhythm and Blues hits from the 50s through 80s.

Libby Richman Trio plays jazz for listening and dancing pleasure starting at 7 p.m. during free lawn concert at .

Wednesday

will hold a special summer sale from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a focus on decorating a college suite or new apartment at bargain rates. School supplies also available. Thursday

Fresh from staging first time ever, one night stands of William Shakespeare’s “As You Like It” in Rye Town Park and Rye Brook’s Pine Ridge Park last weekend, Port Chester’s Lawn Chair Theatre will wind up their free run with Thursday through Saturday performances at 8 p.m. in the Girl Scout House in Port Chester’s nearby Lyon Park.

Rye Brook Planning Board will review, among other things, local law for fair and affordable housing during 8 p.m. meeting at , 938 King St., Rye Brook.

Friday

Blind Brook Board of Education will meet at 8 p.m. in Blind Brook Middle/High School Library to discuss, among other things, approval of transportation contracts and substitute teachers for the school year.

Milt Gerver Orchestra recreates Big Band era sound for listening and dancing from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. during free Dance on the Boardwalk program at Rye . Added highlight: Free fireworks at 9:15 p.m.
