The Rye Free Reading Room will be showing a holiday movie,
House Without a Christmas Tree on Thursday, December 19, 2013 from 3:30 to 5pm in
the meeting room. This movie is rated G and is appropriate for all to view.

In this movie, a girl (Addie) lost her mother when she was
very young. She is happy and well adjusted but would really want to have a
Christmas tree in the house because it is Christmas time. Her dad refuses to
have a Christmas tree in the house, and offers no explanation. Addie learns
from her grandmother the reason that her dad doesn’t want a Christmas tree in
the house is because he is still grieving his wife and the memories are hard
for him to get past. Addie wins a Christmas tree in school and her dad is
upset. He is upset because he doesn’t want his family to have to accept
charity. Addie and her dad begin to finally understand one another better.

This movie might be a good idea for the kids to watch while the adult are Christmas shopping.
