Surviving Healthcare Reform: What Every Business Needs to Know Now

The Westchester County Association presents an informative panel discussion and luncheon for businesses of every size on February 28.

Taking a “wait and see” approach with the new healthcare rules and regs can have dangerous implications -- especially for business owners.

Many of the key provisions of the Affordable Care Act are scheduled to take effect January 1, 2014, bringing with them individual mandates, shared responsibility rules, and health insurance exchanges that will significantly impact businesses of all sizes. Recognizing this, the Westchester County Association has assembled a panel of experts for a practical discussion of how businesses in Westchester should prepare now for the coming changes:

“Providing healthcare coverage is one of the most complex and costly subjects for businesses and employees,” says Amy Allen, managing director, Advocacy for the Westchester County Association. “But savvy business owners can use the ACA to their advantage if they begin to plan now for changes that will take effect the first of next year. The WCA looks forward to providing business professionals with a road map for those changes during our February 28 panel discussion.”

According to the Council of Economic Advisers, the number of small firms offering health insurance has been declining in recent years, with employees of small firms only able to access health insurance plans that are far less generous than those of workers at large firms. Starting next year, businesses that meet certain criteria would be able to purchase health benefits through an insurance exchange -- allowing them to choose among a multitude of plans that would provide better coverage at lower costs than they could find in the current small group market. New York State is well underway in building its exchange.

In addition, small businesses that provide health insurance for their employees would receive a tax credit to alleviate their disproportionately higher costs and encourage coverage. Implications for businesses over 50 employees are far reaching as well. The Westchester County Association’s Surviving Healthcare Reform: What Every Business Needs to Know Now luncheon panel discussion will highlight these and other impacts of the impending healthcare reform regulations.

Moderated by David Rubenzahl, Esq., president of Maxon Administrators, Inc. (a third-party administrator of self-funded health plans and insured disability plans) a television guest expert and lecturer on healthcare reform, business tax and reporting requirements of the Affordable Care Act --the event will include Panelists James D. Schutzer, vice president, J.D. Moschitto & Associates, and Robert M. Winton, CPA, a partner with Citrin Cooperman. The panel will address the business implications of the Affordable Care Act during a luncheon discussion that is open to the public.

“Surviving Healthcare Reform” will begin with a networking session at 11:30am, followed by:

12:20pm - Overview of the ACA and the employer mandates/shared responsibility component by David Rubenzahl

12:40 - Discussion of the NY State Exchanges by James D. Schutzer

12:55 - Robert M. Winton will address the penalties and taxes that will accrue to individuals

1:10 - Moderated Q&A 

1:25 - Audience Q&A

Let's look at the appropriateness of this post. First, it's clearly an ad because it points to aRead More specific insurance agent at a specific agency to contact. Second, it attempts to hide being an ad behind what may be useful information (or not). Third, the "person" who posted it doesn't use their real name. Instead, they use a pseudonym Divorce Information NOW. That doesn’t seem terribly reassuring to me. This the third advertising post on the “announcements” space since Rye Patch converted to the new site layout. Seems a bit of a mess to me. But hopefully someone will come along and figure out who the real poster is, their link to the advertised agent and agency, and then delete the post. After all, if it’s an ad, it should be labeled as such and the poster should pay for having it run. If that doesn’t happen, Patch won’t be able to pay its employees to keep real content on the site.
