The Junior League of Westchester on the Sound (JLWOS) is pleased to announce the 2013 Community Grants application process has begun. Each spring, JLWOS provides grants to area non-profit organizations for programs that support the needs of women and children in the Sound Shore areas of New Rochelle, Larchmont, Mamaroneck, Harrison, Rye, Port Chester and Rye Brook. Last year, JLWOS awarded $30,000 in grants to 17 different organizations.
Over the past 15 years, over $600,000 in grants have been awarded through this program. Programs that receive grants must provide direct benefit to the women and children of the Sound Shore community and may not be used to cover administrative or capital expenditures.
Some of the organizations that received monies last year include: County Harvest, Furniture Sharehouse, Holy Rosary of Social Outreach, Hommocks Cares, Songcatchers, and Sprye. These and other grants have provided children with pajamas, books, and art programs, families with food and furniture, and ESL classes for immigrant women.
JLWOS is dedicated to helping new initiatives in our community, and for this reason programs may only receive funding for two consecutive years. However, the same organization is welcome to apply for a different program in subsequent years. Applications may be found on our website, www.jlwos.org and must be submitted for consideration by March 1, 2013.
