Entergy to Test Indian Point Siren System Wednesday May 16

From Indian Point: BUCHANAN – The Indian Point Energy Center emergency notification sirens will sound during a test of the system on Wednesday, May 16 between 10:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.

During this test, the sirens will sound at full-volume for approximately four minutes in Westchester, Rockland, Orange and Putnam counties.

BECAUSE THIS IS ONLY A TEST, NO RESPONSE ON THE PART OF THE PUBLIC IS NECESSARY DURING THE SIREN SOUNDING.

PLEASE REMEMBER: Sirens are not a signal to evacuate. In an actual emergency, the sirens would sound to alert the public to tune in to a local EAS radio or television station for important information and direction. These stations are listed in the emergency planning booklet mailed to households and businesses in the 10-mile Emergency Planning Zone around Indian Point. These books are also posted on the Indian Point web site – www.safesecurevital.com

Information on Indian Point Energy Center emergency planning is also posted on the New York State Office of Emergency Management web site – http://jic.nyalert.gov/FAQs/FAQs.aspx

Let's look at the appropriateness of this post. First, it's clearly an ad because it points to aRead More specific insurance agent at a specific agency to contact. Second, it attempts to hide being an ad behind what may be useful information (or not). Third, the "person" who posted it doesn't use their real name. Instead, they use a pseudonym Divorce Information NOW. That doesn’t seem terribly reassuring to me. This the third advertising post on the “announcements” space since Rye Patch converted to the new site layout. Seems a bit of a mess to me. But hopefully someone will come along and figure out who the real poster is, their link to the advertised agent and agency, and then delete the post. After all, if it’s an ad, it should be labeled as such and the poster should pay for having it run. If that doesn’t happen, Patch won’t be able to pay its employees to keep real content on the site.
