‘Power of Giving’ program awards grant for Museum Without Walls
Westchester County, N.Y. (June 2012) – Westchester Children’s Museum (WCM) is proud to announce that it has been awarded a $10,000 grant from Con Edison’s ‘Power of Giving’ program. To date, Con Edison has provided over $50,000 in support of WCM’s Museum Without Walls educational programming.
Launched in March of 2010, Museum Without Walls has reached more than 7,000 children throughout the region. Programs are delivered by experienced educators and supported by trained volunteers, many of whom are former scientists and classroom teachers. The programs focus on science, technology, engineering, and math concepts and also explore the creative arts, cultural diversity, and history and traditions of our local communities through interactivities.
Con Edison supports organizations whose activities advance strong, vibrant, and stable communities that maintain the social, cultural, and economic vitality of its service areas. The ‘Power of Giving’ program selects recipients based on their ability to utilize education, training, and special programs and events to enrich the quality of life for all New Yorkers.
“Con Edison recognizes the value of our educational programming at a time when school budgets are rapidly decreasing and young children need a hands-on learning experience more than ever,” said WCM Executive Director Tracy Kay. “The ‘Power of Giving’ grant will allow us to expand our program to ensure that Museum Without Walls continues to reach deserving children throughout the region.”
Museum Without Walls programs are presented at a variety of sites including The Carver Center of Port Chester, The Boys & Girls Clubs of New Rochelle, Greenwich, and Northern Westchester, and White Plains YMCW & YWCA.
In August 2011 Westchester Children’s Museum recently received unanimous approval from the County Board of Legislators for a 10-year lease at the historic Rye Playland North Bathhouse. Until its physical home is complete, Westchester Children’s Museum is dedicated to fulfilling its educational mission through its Museum Without Walls program.
