On Saturday, May 14, there was a "plein air" paint-out in Rye Town Park by a team of local artists who were on location painting scenes of the park. There was music under the pavilion throughout the day, while artists and craftspeople offered items for sale in booths located in and around the park. Despite the overcast weather, there was a cocktail hour in the evening and a live auction of the canvases painted that day, with a portion of the auction proceeds benefitting Friends of Rye Town Park.
Friends participated in the event, selling birdhouses built and donated by member Charlie Northshield Jr.and his dad, Charlie Northshield Sr. plus colorful planters of spring blooms designed by board members Ann Moller and Ellen Slater. A free coloring book containing park facts, created especially for the event by board members Kate Mastellone and Jannine Moran, was given to each child who stopped by the Friends' booth. Board members also handed visitors informative materials regarding FRTP membership, the park's wildlife and sustainable landscaping.
All proceeds Friends received from this event will be used toward their park beautification projects. Thanks to everyone for their support!
