This is an open invitation for children ages 7-10 with singing ability to join Taconic Opera’s children’s chorus for our Oct. 18-21, 27-28 performances
of Arrigo Boito’s Mefistofele!
Your child can be part of a fully staged professional production with orchestra, sets and costumes, sung in Italian with English supertitles above the stage.
Mefistofele is an excellent starter opera for children who have never done this type of performance before. They appear as cherubim in only the first and last acts and invariably steal the show. There is not a lot of music to learn, but they will perform in Italian.
Performances will be at the in Yorktown for the October 18-21 performances and SUNY-Purchase for Oct. 27-28.
Outside of one morning performance (Oct. 18), the others will be on weekend evenings and Sunday matinees. The biggest time commitment happens the week of Oct 15 in preparation for the performances. For children who love music and performing, this can be an experience they’ll treasure for a lifetime!
There is no membership fee for your child to join the company but all singers are required to help put together their costumes. A copy of the children’s choral sections of the opera and a rehearsal CD will be provided.
Music rehearsals will be short and take place on Saturdays at 2:00 pm at the Church of Latter Day Saints on Route 134 between Ossining and Yorktown. Start Date: July 7. Staging rehearsals will take place at the same location; all children’s staging will be done on Saturdays and not weekdays.
