A New Beginning - Rye City Hall - Jan 5 2014

A NEW BEGINNING.

January 5, 2014 – Rye City Hall – 11AM. For those who slipped and slid their ways across Rye’s dangerous ice covered roads and sidewalks to City Hall this morning, the new council (and County Legislator Parker’s) swearing in ceremonies were heartwarming and refreshing. Unlike so many prior such ceremonies in Rye this one was devoid of themes of self satisfaction or triumphal self congratulation for being of - and on - a ‘winning team.” To these local council victor’s apparently belong the more selfless spoils of humility, service and self reflection overtly underscored by family and faith. What a revolution if they actually follow through. Mayor Sack’s acceptance speech text will no doubt soon make its way into print but in advance of that let me paraphrase it’s over arching themes of the reestablishment of truth, transparency and trust in Rye government. Again more revolutionary than it superficially sounds. And to which, may I simply add, let us pray. A new beginning indeed.
