Sampling Wine from Monterey, Paso Roblas & Sant Ynez, CA are FUN 2nd Chakra Pursuits!

According to Oriental Medicine, summer-time energy and the 2nd Chakra is about fire, passion, enthusiasm, joy and abandon!

I can most definitely say that my second chakra was truly filled as enjoyment, sensuality, and fun have been abundant the last two weeks. I had a lovely whirlwind time in California with my husband, as we combined business and pleasure in a 12 day get-away, just the two of us!

Chilly but beautiful Monterey Coast with a temperature of 58-64 degrees, was our first stop, where we sea kyacked, biked, sighted sea lions and seals, and slurped delicious chilled oysters right off the shell. Next stop was Carmel by the Sea, where we browsed beautiful art galleries, chic designer boutiques, and dined out-doors by candle-light on fresh seafood and local wine. There were many interesting diners, but I am sorry to say, we did not spy Clint Eastwood!

From there we drove away from the coast into the wine hills and vineyards of Paso Roblas, where the blazing temperatures ranged from 88-105. The hot sun bleached the hills and dales a golden color, a stark contrast with the thriving green vineyards and colorful wild flowers intermittently dotting the landscape. 

We stayed at a special B&B designed by the wife, a contractor of 23 years, who finally created her dream home, and opened 3 rooms for rent, on the lower level, each with their own entryway. How my 2nd chakra loved the names of the rooms: Indulgence, Decadence, and Extravagance! All of them beautifully appointed with fire place, king bed, and jacuzzi. Since the 2nd chakra is all about enjoyment, I sampled great wine, food, and desserts during my stay!

Wine-tasting is about the experience and pleasure of savoring the fruit of the vine! My husband and I enjoyed swirling different wines in our glass, examining the color, breathing in the heady aroma and sipping the nectar. We luxuriated in the different flavors in each of the vineyards, all so different, but wonderful. We used all our senses, visualizing the color, listening to the story of the grape, but most definitely, the taste on our tongue and palate was the best! It was such fun describing and distinguishing the flowery, citrusy, or herbaceous from the jammy, earthy, flowery, or chocolatey wines.

After a quick beautiful one night coastal stay in Moro Beach, where we gazed at the twinkling stars above, and yes, savoring more wine, we headed inland again. The next wine region we explored, after a quick lunch at Big Sur, was Sant Ynez, home of the movie, 'Sideways', made famous by actor Paul Giamatti, who played Miles, a finicky character, who disdained Merlot wines in favor of Cabernet or Pino Noir, which happen to be my favorites. In the end, it is all subjective, as it is your taste and palate that count.

All in all, by the end of our stay in hectic LA, with its traffic, beautiful beaches, tanned bodies, and great eateries, I looked forward to returning back home, which is where my heart resides. I am a northeast gal with a NY state of mind!

I hope you find some pleasure this summer with Second Chakra pursuits. This can truly be done without air or car travel. The second or Sacral Chakra will support you in looking for fun. Summer has an abundance of town fairs, festivals, farmer's markets, craft fairs, open air picnics, dining, and music at local venues. Grilling local fare, fresh vegetables and fruits from farmer's markets, fine wines, and inviting friends and family to enjoy a weekend repast is a way for you to Color your Life Orange, which is the color of the Second Chakra! Imagine the orange color filling up your body with JOY, VITALITY, and ABUNDANCE!
