Mom-preneur Perspective-Learning to Balance Work & Motherhood

A Mom-Preneur Perspective on LIFE! Does Being a Mom Mean That You Give Up Your Dreams? Can One Balance Mommy-time with ME-Time? Yes, if you want to...YOU CAN!

It is September again, and a new school year for the kids. However, it can be a time for learning new skills for the adults too! I never stop learning new things. I am and always will be a seeker of knowledge and wisdom. However, now that I am of a certain age, having reached my 5th decade, I am giving back by teaching others and I use my life as an example.

For the last 10 years, I have been a ‘crazy’ mom trying to balance and juggle 2 kids, a husband of almost 19 years, and along the way a coterie of pets: 2 bunnies, 2 guinea pigs, and a little dog.

Not satisfied with my nursing career, I began a 10 year course of study in various healing modalities including: childbirth education, body-centered hypnotherapy, homeopathy, energy medicine, reiki, herbal medicine, meditation, and other more esoteric forms of healing.

In essence, I inherited from my mother, Dr. Mom, the desire to heal. People used to tease her that she practiced medicine without a license.  My dream of helping people to heal and live healthfully also stemmed from having a mother who had been very sick when I was a little girl.

Many certifications later, I struggled with juxtaposing my desire to work with clients and my equally strong heart-felt need to be a mother at home with my children. It was not an easy path. There are times I thought I was at the end of my rope. My schedule was grueling: awakening at 5AM to exercise, driving my kids to school, after-school activities, HW helper, reading the news, making dinner, and then burning the midnight oil to complete assignments for my school. In addition, I taught healing classes at various venues and saw clients at home, part-time.

Being a mother is a challenging, frustrating and rewarding job in and of itself! It is probably one of the most important jobs a woman can have. But there was something inside of me that needed to be explored, aside from my love of being a mommy. My passion for helping people, educating people on holistic health, and options for healing and wellness could not be quenched and so I tried to ‘do’ it ALL!

Was this a healthy way to live? Can anyone relate to this driving need to perform, succeed, and attempt to self-actualize their potential? Does loving one’s family and being a mom mean that I have to give up my dreams?

As I look back many years later, I realize that for some reason, I was in a big rush! I felt that I was running out of time. With each birthday, I felt that by the time I fulfilled my dream, I would be as old as Sarah, wife of Abraham, who had her first child in her 90’s.

This past May, I finally opened the doors to my first real healing space in the office of Dr. David Fulop, DC, in Mamaroneck, NY!  (Funny story for another post about how this happened!) I still have to balance, juggle and judiciously schedule my time, so there is a fine balance between family, work, friendship and ME time!

I now know that I have all the time in the world. (How? Will tell in another post!) I also have the Energy Medicine tools with which to balance STRESS, heal aches, pains and stress-related illnesses. These are the modalities that I use on myself, on my family and with my clients. And they really work!

Just a short thought to get the word out quickly about anything in your neighborhood.
Share something with your neighbors. Write a new post... What's up? Make an announcement, speak your mind, or sell something

Let's look at the appropriateness of this post. First, it's clearly an ad because it points to aRead More specific insurance agent at a specific agency to contact. Second, it attempts to hide being an ad behind what may be useful information (or not). Third, the "person" who posted it doesn't use their real name. Instead, they use a pseudonym Divorce Information NOW. That doesn’t seem terribly reassuring to me. This the third advertising post on the “announcements” space since Rye Patch converted to the new site layout. Seems a bit of a mess to me. But hopefully someone will come along and figure out who the real poster is, their link to the advertised agent and agency, and then delete the post. After all, if it’s an ad, it should be labeled as such and the poster should pay for having it run. If that doesn’t happen, Patch won’t be able to pay its employees to keep real content on the site.
