Where is your safe haven? How do you define your personal space? The work of 16 artists exploring the concepts of safe havens, personal space, and comfort zones will be the focus of an exhibit opening at The College of New Rochelle Castle Gallery on Dec. 6, 2011.

The terms safe haven, personal space, and comfort zones evoke feelings of peace and calm because they are connected to home, family, kinship, and recurring tradition. Yet this type of mental conditioning also causes a person to create and operate false boundaries, producing an unfounded sense of security. Because this personal territory is not infallible at times, it can and will be breached thus creating the “uncomfortable zone.” Whether this removal of sanctuary is voluntary or involuntary, the lingering effects are immediately apparent.

The Castle Gallery of The College of New Rochelle will feature “(un)COMFORT(able) ZONE: Reflections on Home, Hearth, Memory and Loss” from Dec. 6, 2011 through Feb. 19, 2012. The exhibit, curated by Jennifer Zazo, will feature work by the following artists: Marisa Aragona, Micah Bozeman, Maria Buyondo, George Ferrandi, Aubrey Hays, Dorie Klein, Ellie Krakow, Alison Moritsugu, Allison Maletz, David McQueen, Wanda Raimundi-Ortiz, H. Mikael Tarkela, André Trenier, Jane Lillian Vance, Madeline Wilson and Rona Yefman.
