This Week in Rye Sports

Our weekly roundup of Rye sports.

A few Rye-area sports teams earned advanced closer to championship seasons this past week, while others were sent back to the drawing board for next season.

Rye Garnets

Garnet Ice Hockey lost 5-3 to Queensbury in the Section One Ice Hockey Regional championship game March 6 to end the season at 15-6-3. Aaron Rix had 45 saves in the loss.

Blind Brook Trojans

After being awarded their first Section One Class C championship a week before, the Trojans boys basketball has gone on an impressive ride throughout the post season to currently stand at 16-7.  It started with a 46-38 regional semi-final victory over S.S. Seward on Wednesday followed by a 47-35  win over the Stony Brook School in the state regional final Friday. Antoine Saliba had an excellent defensive performance in the third quarter against S.S. Seward. Next up for the Trojans is a trip to the state semi-finals at the Glen Falls Civic Center in Glen Falls, N.Y. against a yet to be determined opponent.

RCDS Wildcats

It was an excellent season for both Wildcat basketball teams who were victorious in the New York State Association of Independent Schools basketball championships on March 7 (NYSAIS). After a 64-48 victory over Columbia Prep in which four players tallied points in double figures, the No. 3 Wildcats beat No.2 Riverdale Country Day School 46-34 on Saturday, advancing to a championship game today against Friends Seminary whom they beat 58-42 for their first NYSAIS championship. It'll be exciting to see what more the Wildcats can do after a distinguished 17-9 season.

In girls action, the Wildcats defeated Staten Island Academy 46-39 in their NYSAIS semi-final game, advancing to the final against Immaculata and a 38-22 victory. Alexandra Osborn-Jones had 18 points on the night to go along with 12 rebounds and 13 blocked shots in a triple-double performance. Stephanie Binder had 11 points. RCDS finishes a successful season at 19-5.

Check back next week to see how the Trojans fared in the state semi-finals.
