Saturday Rye Council Meeting to Discuss Budget Strategy
Rye City Council members will meet at Whitby Castle Saturday morning for a public workshop on future budget strategies.
The constraints of the recently enacted two percent tax cap, which limits how much municipalities can increase tax levies, compelled the Rye City Council to pass a 2012 budget with no funding for capital projects. Street upgrades, new fire and police equipment and other infrastructure spending are all in limbo.
With that in mind, the City Council has scheduled a workshop this Saturday at 8:45 a.m. in Whitby Castle to figure out strategies to fund future capital projects.
At Wednesday's regular council meeting, Councilwoman Catherine Parker expressed her disappointment the session would not be live-streamed. According to city manager Scott Pickup, Whitby Castle does not have the facilities for video.
The 8:45 a.m. meeting is open to the public. Whitby Castle is located at 330 Boston Post Rd.
Editor's note: The correct time for the budget workshop is 8:45 a.m. The meeting will be taped and available for those who can't attend in person as soon as possible, according to RyeTV.
