A Rye man was surprisingly honest with police after a shoplifting spree at four stores in the Kohl's shopping plaza on Saturday.

Store security at Kohl's was watching 18-year-old Vinicius DeBarros when he stuffed a men's t-shirt and two bottles of cologne in his pockets as he walked through the store at 1 p.m., Port Chester police Lt. James Ladeairous said.

Security officers stoped DeBarros when he tried to walk out of the store and called police.

While interviewing DeBarros at police headquarters, officers took a white plastic bag from the Rye man and placed it on a table. One of the officers asked DeBarros where the items inside the bag came from.

"They're stolen," DeBarros replied, according to the police report.

The officer started pulling items out of the bag, and DeBarros helpfully named the stores they'd come from.

Ten Playstation 3 games? "Gamestop." Black necklace? "Party City." Dust-off computer sprayer? "Staples."

Police also found a bag of marijuana when they searched DeBarros. When an officer asked if DeBarros stole all the items on the same day, before he was caught at Kohl's, DeBarros said, "Yes, I have a bad habit."

DeBarros, of Forest Avenue in Rye, was charged with petty larceny and three counts of criminal possession of stolen property, all misdemeanors. He was also charged with a violation for marijuana possession. He was due back in Port Chester village court this morning.
